Discover the perfect au pair from Europe

Hosting an au pair from Europe is about more than just childcare—it's about building meaningful connections across cultures. Whether it's celebrating Oktoberfest, cheering on FC Barcelona, trying homemade pasta and tiramisu, or introducing your kids to new languages like French, German, or Italian, welcoming a European au pair into your home will help your children see the world from a new perspective.

Why choose a European au pair?

Many families who’ve welcomed European au pairs started their search in our host family app—where you can browse profiles and connect with someone who’s the right fit for your family.

Au pairs from Europe bring diverse cultural perspectives shaped by centuries of rich traditions and modern educational approaches. Their exposure to multilingual environments, emphasis on work-life balance, and respect for family time make them excellent fits for families seeking thoughtful, well-rounded care. Many European au pairs value independence while maintaining strong family connections—qualities that translate beautifully into live-in help from Europe.

How our au pair program works

Matching process & local support

We'll help you find an au pair from Europe who is a strong match in terms of personality, values, and parenting style. With guidance from our team during the matching process—and yearlong support from a local coordinator in your community—you’ll have expert help every step of the way.

Visa requirements & legal considerations

European au pairs travel to the U.S. on a legal J-1 cultural exchange visa for the federal au pair program. These visas are issued by the U.S. Department of State which also regulates the program. Cultural Care is a designated sponsor of this program and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal regulations.

Understanding the program costs

Hosting an au pair through Cultural Care is a cost-effective alternative to daycare or nanny care—especially for those with multiple children. Au pair costs start around $1,755/month. You're also expected to provide a weekly stipend, meals, and up to $500 toward your au pair’s educational requirement.

The unique benefits of hosting a European au pair

Help your children learn Spanish, French, Italian, or German

While they're conversationally fluent in English, European au pairs also speak their native language—giving your children the chance to experience language-learning through daily conversation, songs, and play.

Celebrating European traditions in your home

From leaving shoes out for St. Nicholas at holiday time, to Midsummer festival traditions, to bedtime stories, your European au pair will introduce authentic cultural practices into your daily life. Hosting means experiencing everything from homemade pasta nights to teaching your children traditional folk songs. This natural cultural immersion with an au pair creates lasting memories while broadening your family's global perspective. The cost of hosting European au pair includes not just childcare, but a year-long cultural exchange with a European au pair that enriches everyone involved.

Tailored support for your family’s needs

Our European au pairs provide care that fits into your family’s schedule and lifestyle—think help with school drop-offs and pick-ups, bedtime routines, weekend and date-night coverage, and everything in between.

Success story: How one European au pair became a part of the family

What truly sets Almi apart is her genuine care and concern for our children.

Irene became a part of our family instantly and she has enriched our lives in many ways, from making fun activities for the girls to sharing her culture and traditions in thoughtful and unique ways. Irene made us a special Christmas gift last year that explained our first Spanish Christmas and all of the traditions she celebrates in Spain. It was one of the most thoughtful presents we have ever received. We now celebrate the three kings on January 6th as part of our traditions. Irene does not just live in our house, she has truly become a member of our family, a big sister to Josephine and Katherine. We wish Irene could stay another year or two! But we cannot wait to visit her and her family in her hometown village in Spain!
