Welcome your au pair
Start your cultural exchange experience!
As soon as an au pair matches with their future host family, our staff initiates the process for an au pair to be able to apply for their visa. After an au pair secures their visa appointment, they are invited to a workshop hosted by Cultural Care to help them feel prepared. Au pairs will also find a comprehensive step-by-step guide for the visa application and interview process in the au pair app.

Making your home au pair-ready
It's important to make sure your au pair feels at home when they arrive.
Step 1: Prepare your au pair's room
You'll want to thoroughly clean your au pair's room and prepare fresh linens for their arrival. A bed, bureau, desk and closet/armoire are room essentials that will help your au pair to feel comfortable for a whole year (or more!) with your family.
Step 2: Establish your house rules
We recommend preparing a detailed household guide to your home before your au pair arrives to clearly outline your routines and important rules, covering topics like curfew, guests, and more. You'll find a helpful template in the app to get you started.
Step 3: Assemble a welcome basket
Assemble a welcome basket for your au pair to show how excited you are for their arrival! Consider including essentials like toiletries and a water bottle, as well as fun-to-have treats like a gift card to a nearby coffee shop and a hat or t-shirt featuring your local sports team.
Step 4: Consider other thoughtful gestures
Making a welcome sign, stocking the kitchen with their favorite foods and printing photos of their family members to arrange in their room are all thoughtful ways to help your au pair feel truly at home from day one.
