Choosing the right au pair

Cultural Care Au Pair is committed to helping you find an au pair who best matches your family’s needs and lifestyle, which is one reason we insist on an individualized approach to the matching process. This intensive process relies on the active participation of four key players: your Placement Manager in the Cultural Care Au Pair office, the au pair candidate, your local childcare coordinator, and, of course, you.

NEW! 3 ways to match

Families will be guided and supported by a Placement Manager throughout the selection process. Use one or a combination of our “three ways to match” to find the right au pair for your family!

  1. Our new “Search and Select” option allows you to search through au pair profiles independently online and express interest individual candidates.
  2. With personalized, exclusive matching, your Placement Manager chooses candidates on your behalf.
  3. For a more collaborative approach, you can schedule a consultative matching appointment during which you review multiple candidates at once over the phone with your Placement Manager.

In each case, your Placement Manager will place appropriate candidates in your account for your exclusive review. Because candidates in your account are yours to review exclusively, you will not compete with other families while trying to decide which au pair is right for your family.

Time to review

Next, you will receive information about your au pair match via e-mail. You can access the au pair’s complete application, including a description of childcare experience, references and interview evaluation through your host family Web account. Because you are the only family reviewing your au pair match, you are not in competition with other families while you decide. If you have questions or need clarification with any details on the application, your local childcare coordinator or Program Director will happily assist you.

Phone interview

The next step is to conduct an interview by telephone. Keep in mind that personality is often as important as childcare experience in determining a successful placement. You are also encouraged to contact the candidate’s references to discuss the au pair’s qualifications. Cultural Care Au Pair provides telephone interviewing tips and resources in our Host Family Handbook.

The final decision is yours

Although all au pair candidates are carefully screened; only you can choose the right au pair for your family. If you are unsure about a particular candidate, Cultural Care Au Pair will re-match you with new candidates until you are fully satisfied with your final choice.
